Parashat Tetzaveh
„When a person stands in a whole state, then all his human, psychological feelings live and thrive within him; but in a state of ruin, then only necessity finds a place in life...”From Ein Ayah, Shabbat 2:67
In this week's portion the magnificent garments of the High Priest and the special garments of the priests are mentioned at length. "Beautiful" things are part of our ability to expand the mind, to rejoice and to spread joy around us. When we dress festively, when our home is orderly and clean and beautiful, when we are neat and beautiful, when we smile - the atmosphere around us radiates optimism. And when the situation is the opposite, we are in ruin, in gloom and decline. Part of our ability to emerge from a hard situation is in putting on optimism. This is very hard at times, and in certain situations it is impossible. But if we succeed in doing it, we will enable ourselves to grow, to become great, and to prevail.
