The Sadness of Missing the Mark

„All sadness comes on account of sin, and repentance illuminates the soul and transforms the sadness into joy.”From Shemonah Kevatzim I:623

When we do not succeed, we grieve. And at times, we discover our lack of success from the result. The sadness reveals to us that we missed the mark, that we did not act properly. When we succeed in repairing, the joy returns. And when the repair is a complete repair, the repentance makes the whole process right and precise - both the moments of missing the mark, and the moments of repentance and repair that were born from it, which without the missing of the mark would not have been revealed.
