Difficulty That Testifies to Health

„And when we grieve in general over a lack of perfection, is this not a sign and proof that we are destined for perfection, that we are going up and ascending toward the future?”From Iggerot HaRe'iyah II, p. 263

We have written here much about the Rav's view of difficulty and lack as part of a long and whole road and as part of reaching a longed-for destination. Here the Rav relates to the hard feeling that accompanies us when things are difficult for us. Difficulty, like fever in a sick person or pain in one who is in pain, shows wholeness in a person. His systems signal to him when life does not flow properly, and the alarm rouses him to change. And when we do what is healthy for us, and initiate the longed-for change, a better future awaits us.
