Parashat Vayera
„The appearance of Israel... as a nation among the nations, a nation surrounded by enemies who wish to swallow it — and it grows strong and overcomes them.”From Olat Re'iyah, 96
The binding of Yitzchak is without doubt one of the hardest stories in Scripture. After the binding, Avraham is blessed: "And your seed shall inherit the gate of its enemies, and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed." In this blessing there is, on one hand, the blessing of victory: we will defeat our enemies! But in addition to it appears another blessing, which the Rav discusses further on. After the war, after we destroy the enemy, the whole world will recognize the light of Israel — which eradicates evil, which brings blessing to the world, which brings holiness to the world!
