Mishpetei HaRav Kook / The Statement for the Month of Adar

„Those who recall walled cities encircled since the days of Yehoshua bin Nun cannot remain the servants of Achashverosh.”From Meged Yerachim, Adar

When Adar enters, we increase in joy, and at the entrance of this wondrous month let us try to understand the meaning of the walled cities — why to this day there is a division whereby in Jerusalem people celebrate a day after Tel Aviv? A division that reaches back to the days of Yehoshua bin Nun in the fixing of the days of Purim? In the statement for the month, the Rav explains that the return of the people of Israel to its land, and the mention of this matter precisely at the exilic victory in Persia, is not incidental. Even when we are victorious in exile, we remember that the true and only victory is in our return to our land. If we defeat, in exile, one Pharaoh or one Achashverosh and remain there, others will come. A good and happy month!
