Mishpetei HaRav Kook / Parashat Vayigash

„The feeling of brotherhood that we feel even toward our brothers who, for various and terrible reasons, have distanced themselves so greatly from the house of our life, from the foundation of holiness, from the life of Torah and commandments that encompass the entire nation throughout its generations — it is this that instills in us the feeling of the war and strengthens the force and the bitterness of our protest; but it also gives us a quality of caution, for in the end it is not against enemies, but against our brothers, that we fight.”From Ma'amrei HaRe'iyah

There have always been disputes within the people of Israel. The book of Bereshit is entirely filled with wars between brothers and their consequences. Among the closest, precisely because of their closeness, there are great and sometimes shattering disputes — precisely because of the fact that indifference does not exist. Dispute is a healthy thing, but we must remember, alongside the dispute, the fact that we are brothers! And to act out of that.
