Mishpetei HaRav Kook / Parashat Vayishlach

„We are wary of intoxication and exaggeration, even in the most sublime and lofty matters. Justice is a lamp to our feet, and we read in the holy Scripture.”From Igrot I, p. 205

Parashat "Vayishlach" is a portion filled with "life itself." Countless struggles of Yaakov against life and death. Hatred and love. Difficulty, pain, and joys. Scripture does not hide from us the struggle and the question marks of Yaakov himself — in the encounter with his brother, in the education of his children, in passing the staff of leadership onward to those who come after him. It seems to me that, more than anything, the portion teaches us Yaakov's balancing conception — a conception that succeeded, in the end, in creating 12 tribes who ultimately conduct themselves, each in his own unique light, as continuers of the way. As the children of Israel.
