„Days come when a slumber falls upon a person, and the countenances are sawn apart from one another, until complete separation becomes possible... The completion of the sawing is the essence of the building.”From Orot Yisrael I, 13

In this week's portion, as part of dealing with family matters, the subject of divorce is raised. It is a very difficult separation that Judaism permits, unlike other religions, and does not burden with obstacles. The Rav explains the matter of choice. When we are without free choice and act under coercion, we are not truly connected. Thus a person can deny their God, cast doubt, choose to break and shatter a bond. This capacity for choice causes us to genuinely choose each day. And so, every time we believe, we are choosing it. Every moment we are married, we are choosing it and expressing trust. And in the moment we decide, or are compelled, to dissolve, that too is done through choice.
