„To guard the banner of our own uniqueness, through which the whole great world sees in us the singular wonder: that although we have been scattered among many nations, and grown distant from our land for many hundreds of years, we stand alive and enduring in our own spirit, bound with fresh ties to the Lord, God of Israel, and His holy Torah.”From Ma'amarei HaRe'iyah
In Parashat Bamidbar the people of Israel are arrayed. Each tribe, with its banner and emblems, in its journey through the wilderness — emblems that give color to each group and that ultimately unite them all under the banner of Israel upon entering the Promised Land. Rav Kook delivered a sermon on the banner before the establishment of the state, in which he brings the idea of the banner that connects the holy emblems of the people with its present aspirations. To raise our banner with pride.
