„One must be very careful of sadness, but not to such a great degree that it prevents the light of repentance from penetrating into the depth of the soul.”From Orot HaTeshuvah 8, 12

Sadness can shatter us completely. But it also has, on the other hand, the capacity to rouse and to advance. In contrast to despair, which causes stagnation, when we are sad about something and decide to shake it off, we advance. Blurring the sadness and the pain is at times important, but if we paint for ourselves only a beautiful picture, we may sink into fantasies and not advance at all.
