„The case of the individual who devotes themselves only to bodily might, and likewise the case of a whole people that says it will live only by its fist and the strength of its hand, will feel in its historical old age that its might becomes a snare for it.”From Ein Ayah, Berachot 9, 8
Physical heroism has a unique and important place. Rav Kook encourages sport and physical education. The difference between "Greek culture" and the Rav's conception is one of proportions and of what is essential. One who places the essence of their concern only in physical strength is destined for downfall. Physical power is something that has a beginning and an end. Both on the personal level and on the national level, we must remember that our true strength is in our spirit. Bodily strength, when it comes in the right measure, is very important. But we must not become confused and place it as the center and the essence.
