„Every novel insight (chiddush) in Torah must be idealistic at its foundation, based upon the depth of uprightness in our moral content, upon the depth of holiness in our content of faith, upon the depth of logic in our intellectual content, and interwoven with a feeling of song and beauty in our content of form.”From Shemonah Kevatzim 7:222

Novel insights in Torah are not a game. A person who occupies himself with Torah must be directed in his deeds. Just as a pharmacist must be a professional who is familiar with the compound he prepares, just as a carpenter must know the wood and the screw with which he works — so, and even more so, in matters of holiness.

We must know that when we innovate in Torah we are not working only on the domain of feeling, but on a deep connection to morality, to holiness, to logic, and to faith.

Out of this we will connect to our deep and eternal Torah.

Happy holiday!
