„Against the breach of the Greeks and the Hellenizers, who wrote on the horn of the ox that they have no portion in the God of Israel, they instituted the writing of God's name even on documents; and against the exaggeration that came from this afterward...”From They annulled the writing of God's name on the document
...they abolished the writing of God's name on documents; but upon the pillars of our living literature it is surely our duty now to write the name of God, the God of Israel - in books, in pamphlets, in articles, in visions, in poems, in commentaries, and in homilies..." (Me'at Tzori, page 15)
When the Greeks wished to destroy Judaism, they turned to the Jews and demanded, "Write for yourselves on the horn of the ox that we have no portion in the God of Israel." The Maccabean response to this demand, says the Rav, is the writing of the name of the God of Israel on the horn of the ox, and not only upon it but in every place.
A declaration that we are connected to the Holy One in everything we do, in every work we do.
Jewish activity does not sever between one who serves God and one who works in the field: "one who does much and one who does little, provided he directs his heart to his Father in Heaven." The name of God shall be called in every place, since we believe that the glory of the Holy One fills everything.
A pleasant day to all!
