On the Way Up

„This will give us strength and might to hold firm against the temporary falls that come as part of the path of ascent, and as rungs upon it.”From Al HaShniyut – Innocence and Science

Sometimes we finish one stage; what we once were no longer holds us, yet we have not yet built the next stage. Rav Kook writes about this unsettling period. Precisely when a person is growing, he may feel that he has lost something along the way. But not every shaking is a retreat. Sometimes we need to dismantle a simple conception in order to rebuild it, deeper and more precise. The problem begins when we panic at this stage and try to force our way back. This difficult period is a necessary part of moving forward.
