„The more the moral sense is sharpened, the more a person sees his own…”
„The more the moral sense is sharpened, the more a person sees his own nakedness, and the bitterness of his soul over his undeveloped moral worth grows within him, until at times it is very bitter for him. Nevertheless, every upright of heart is wise enough to accept this trait with love, for it refines the person and brings him to precious qualities and pure traits.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, V, 6
The more moral we are, the more aware we become of the problematic nature of our various deeds. The more we dig and try and strive, the more we discover places that require mending and completion. With an evil eye one may feel that we are becoming less moral, but with a good and true eye the upright of heart know that this is how one becomes pure and clean. This is true on a personal level and also on a national level. The more we wish to be cleaner, the more filth we will discover - the wisdom is to know how to continue cleaning and searching until we reach true cleanliness.
