Israel, Trust in God

Rav Kook contemplates the Zionist movement and sees a movement full of strength and light, and alongside it slackness and darkness. A whole movement that returned to the land of the fathers and deepened its roots, alongside a distancing from faith and from the Holy One. Precisely there he recalls: 'The salvation of Israel is always the salvation of God.' One must establish, fight, build, forge alliances, and act within reality, but one must not err and think that we are the masters of the process. Even today, when we are all astonished by the shift in direction of the President of the United States – which could reverse again in a moment – it is worth remembering: allies are important, but they are not the source of our salvation. The world roars, the powers change direction this way and that, and Israel stands in the midst. Israel, trust in God!
