Parashat Nitzavim

„Corresponding to every portion of ugliness that departs from the human soul through [repentance]...”From Orot HaTeshuvah V, 2

In our portion, Moses repeats the fundamental statement of the Torah: the choice is in our hands, whether to walk on a path fitted to good or to evil. 'See, I have set before you today life and good, and death and evil.' Choosing life does not mean that there are no challenges, but that we give ourselves the best path for advancing in the complex world in which we live. On the eve of the last Shabbat of the year, we receive a reminder in this week's portion that the choice is in our hands. It is not in the heavens, not in the hands of angels and seraphim, but in our hands as human beings to choose anew each time. To fall and to rise. And to decide that we choose life. And if we choose life, our soul will be filled with new and welling worlds.
