Harnessing the Darkness

„There is a person who feels the essence of the evil soul... and because of this he is filled with bitterness over his soul. But he must take to heart that, corresponding to the impure soul, there is within him a divine soul, pure, holy, and exalted.”From Orot HaKodesh III, 6

We all know the inner struggle, the moments in which a voice of darkness rises from within us and tries to undermine us from inside. In that specific moment that may unsettle us, Rav Kook explains that there is an immense sign: it is precisely when the light tries to break through that the shadows too awaken. The wisdom is not to suppress and not to deny, but to take all this energy, even the forces that grew out of the darkness, and to subordinate them to the root of holiness. Thus it becomes clear that the struggle is not in vain, that the falls and the confusion can become a tool in our hands to shine with sevenfold light.
