We often ask ourselves how one can influence reality, how one can lift up our people, improve our condition, make things better here. In this passage Rav Kook offers astonishing advice: tend to yourselves. Be elevated, be better. Existence itself is not found only 'outside,' but lives within us. And therefore when a person is elevated, not only his own soul rises, but all of existence rises with him. And this circle of growth works also in the opposite direction: when reality rises, it lifts us up even more. True change begins from within, and from there it radiates upon all of reality.
