The Second Festival Day of the Diaspora

„After the situation caused the descent to come, there was an expansion of practical existence, even though...”From Ein Ayah, Shabbat 39

The second festival day of the diaspora stems from the days of uncertainty in fixing the festival dates, since there was concern that the messengers would not reach the diaspora in time. Even once the concern was removed, and the precise calendar, beyond all doubt, brought festivals known in advance, the sages did not abolish the custom that had become law, and the Rav explains its importance. Our brethren living abroad need an added measure of spirit, and for this the day continues and is established for them. A reminder for them of the lack that exists abroad, and a reminder for us, that we have merited to be in the Land of Israel. “A land that the Lord your God cares for.”
