Crisis
„For the crisis heralds no content of destruction, but rather a content of the renewal of form and a tiding of a new perfection, which, when completed, its power will be strong to remove all the dross and to bring forth a vessel fit for the refiner, wholly pure.”From Pinkas Yerushalayim, 21
In the general world of the spirit, when we see opinions being shaken, social orders collapsing, and values that were once sacred breaking and eroding to the dust, this is no tiding of destruction, but rather a hint of the depth of the new creation that is being built beneath the surface, out of the great breaking. The crisis is not an end, but a different beginning, deeper and higher, born out of the pain and the upheaval. Just as, in the act of creation, the Holy One built worlds and destroyed them until He found a world that could hold eternal good, so too in the journey of history, great crises herald the birth of new worlds, purer and more sublime than any that came before. It is important to remember that these words are spoken of the movements of worlds and nations, and not of the pain of an individual, who sometimes breaks and is lost, and we have no words of comfort to offer him. But in the national view, in the depth of the movement of the generations, we learn that the breaking is a necessary stage on the way to a purer and more complete revelation of life.
