Unchanging
„For the dough of our forefathers did not have time to leaven, and by this power the dough of our children too will never leaven for all time.”From Ma'amarei HaRaayah, Matzah Zo
The matzah to which we return each year on Passover is the symbol of the formation of the Jewish people. The moment of redemption of the exodus from Egypt imprinted upon the people of Israel an eternal quality – the ability to remain faithful to the inner truth, and not to change according to shifting fashions or the winds of the times. In the matzah we, as it were, meet ourselves. Just like the ancient dough, we too are made of a special material that cannot truly leaven. True, life poses trials and challenges, but our inner essence, the essence of our children and of all the generations that will come after us, remains pure, faithful, and untainted.
