Vision and Reality

„Reality has no such swift wings as those of the vision.”From Orot HaTechiyah, III

On the path of the people of Israel toward redemption, patience is required. The transition from a pure vision to actuality poses real challenges. The idea spreads swiftly, but reality advances in small steps. Rav Kook, through this image, describes the essence of the process of redemption – the built-in gap between a perfect vision and its implementation in the world of action. We must not despair when the realization is slow or partial. Precisely the contending with the difficulties of reality tempers the vision and deepens it. The small steps of today are the milestones toward the complete redemption.

These words resonate especially in our own day, as we struggle against the enemies who surround us on all sides. On the one hand, we see victories and achievements, and on the other – daily reality is fraught with challenges and pain. Vision and reality move at a different pace, but at the end of the process they will meet and unite into one wholeness.
