Parashat Tetzaveh, Zachor
„We cannot depict how dark and low the world would have been without this harshness of ours, just as we cannot depict how evil and abhorrent it would have been without the pure illumination of the light of God and His ways.”From Al Da'at Hashem UMilchamot Hashem
This Sabbath we read Parashat Zachor, which commands the destruction of Amalek. Unfortunately, in the world after October 7, every sensible person understands the need to kill an enemy and a terrorist, and the need to beware of and to distance ourselves from a hypocritical morality that shows mercy to a cruel enemy – with its destructive consequences for us and for our children. Judaism brought light to the world, in the face of the darkness brought by nations whose purpose is killing and murder. Let us remember, and not forget, to define the evil, and to see to its removal.
