To Go Out of Ourselves

„A person must always extricate himself from his private frameworks, which fill his entire being, until all his thoughts revolve always only around his private fate – which brings a person down to the depth of smallness, and there is no end to the physical and spiritual sufferings caused by this.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, VI 214

When we are absorbed only in ourselves, we suffer. When we are part of a group, and our view does not see only our own four cubits, our lives are better and more serene. And this is not only as “charity” to the world, but as a perspective that builds our individual self in a stronger and deeper way. A world that looks only at the individual does not build a better life for the individual, but detaches him from the community and establishes wretchedness. We must connect to the collective, both for the sake of the collective, and so that things will be better for us in our private lives.
