Seventh Candle of Hanukkah
„We were never distinguished by the strength of arm against all the nations, and it was not by the strength of an arm of flesh that we arose and were sustained until now.”From Adar HaYakar, IV
Rav Kook was a tremendous innovator, and precisely because of this his words here are important and essential. We say in "Al HaNissim" that we were victorious when we were "few against many, weak against mighty," and against the heroism in which the Hasmoneans have been wrapped in recent centuries, it is important that we contemplate these words. The heroism of Israel requires bodily strength, but nonetheless, this is not our principal power. Israel's message to the world is never in the power of weapons but in the powers of the spirit. Precisely in these days it is important that we sharpen and remember our message. And alongside a victory of heroism and strength, let us remember the essence of the spirit.
