To Decide That It Is Good

„Pleasantness is uncovered from all bitterness, life from all the pangs of death, the delights of the world from all sickness and pains.”From Shemonah Kevatzim VII, 206

Rav Kook opens the passage with the statement "Repentance does not come to embitter life, but to make it pleasant," and he explains that in the end, in our decision to see that it is good, to decide that it is good, we connect to life. The more we understand that our ability to add good to the world lies in our feeling good, the better it will be for us and for the world. To connect to life, to connect to pleasantness, to connect to what feels right to us – this is the answer to the most bitter and difficult periods.
