The Unifying Sukkah
„And beneath the gloom of the divisions and the hatreds, the strife of factions and the personal quarrels that destroy in us every good portion, in spirit and in matter, there will come the pure, emanated light upon the holiness of the sukkah, and it will banish from us the terrifying shadows of the misleading illusions.”From HaSukkah HaAchat
The sukkah allows us to step out for a moment from private life and to unite. To succeed in each one going out from his home, and uniting under the same thatch and the same boards. To emerge from Yom Kippur, on which our iniquities were atoned, together, as new people. In this past year there are many who lived in a sukkah as they guarded over all of us. They went out from their homes and gave their whole selves and their family and their livelihood for the sake of the whole. They slept beneath thatch and boards and brought unity and strength to the entire people. On Sukkot, we all connect to them, and in this year we also draw from their strength.
