Beware, Hatred

We are in the week in which the Ninth of Av falls, and Rav Kook spoke of the immense importance of repair through love. We must understand that even though hatred of evil is critical and important for the defeat of the enemy, external and internal, in our lives as individuals and as a nation, hatred still has a price. And Rav Kook warns of an inner clinging to hatred. It is important to emphasize – there is nothing in this to diminish in the least the need to eliminate the enemy and to hate him, but there is in it something to remind us of the price of hatred. And we must remember this and beware of it.
