Parashat Matot-Masei
„For it comes to illumine in the world all the treasures of good, to remove the causes that darken life and existence in general – which are the growths of wickedness and the fruit of falsehood and betrayal – that, so long as they are not purged from the world, darken it.”From Olat Re'iyah, "El Nekamot Hashem"
In this week's parashah Moses is commanded, a moment before his death, regarding vengeance against the Midianites. The Rav explains the concept of vengeance, whose matter is brought in the last three parashiyot: Balak, Pinchas, and Matot. Vengeance does not mean the lust of the desires or a wish to settle a score out of personal cravings. God's vengeance against evil is the desire to cleanse the world of evil and to add light and good to the world. To purge the darkness and to cause light to grow.
