„Courage of life is essential for every individual, and especially for…”

„Courage of life is essential for every individual, and especially for a leader, and for every community. But together with the courage that emerges from this trait of soul, many harmful branches and evil traits are aroused, and a clear discernment of great uprightness is needed to distinguish the pure good from the dross.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, I, 254

Courage is a blessed trait; it is what gives the strength to bring things from thought into action and deed.

A society needs courageous people within it in order to come into being; a leader is a person of courage, and each of us, at various levels, is called upon to have courage in order to advance and to build.

But together with this we must be aware of the accompanying price of courage. A price that lifts us from the flight of thoughts into a practical, real world, with difficulties and challenges, and thereby places us before a reality more complex than the theoretical one.

When we reach the stage of courage, we must always remember the pure place from which we began, the fact that the courage came in order to bring deep ideas into action, and not in order to display forcefulness or dominion.

These words apply especially to people who have already reached leadership, and whose uprightness and depth brought them to this point. Precisely they, more than anyone, must guard themselves to remain courageous in the right measure, but with humanity and flight of thought as they were before their entry into the world of action.
