What Is His, Is His
„Sometimes a person falls from his composure when he hears of the greatness of a different mode that is not his own... one must then strengthen oneself, so as not to be envious of another's portion.”From Shemonah Kevatzim II, 230
Sometimes we torment ourselves. We look at the standing of another person, closer to us or less so, and within us a terrible sadness begins to grow over the fact that we are not that other person. And this fall is liable to be difficult and to accompany us for long and terrible periods. The more we understand that each person has his gifts and the packages that come along with them, the better it will be for our lives. Rabbi Nachman had an astonishing saying on the matter: "Return to your own treasures and make use of your own treasures." For what is yours, is yours, and it is a treasure. And what is not – will only do you harm.
