Parashat Behar

„The very effect that Shabbat has upon each individual, the Sabbatical year has upon the nation as a whole.”From Introduction to Shabbat HaAretz

Our world moves without pause. In the never-ending struggle for existence, and in the survival-driven will to continue the chain of life to our offspring, we are liable to forget the starting point of everything. And the Sabbatical year, like Shabbat, are foundations that the Holy One planted in our world to remind us of the truth. And in the seventh year, and also on Shabbat, there is that special voice that allows us to stop for a moment and think precisely these thoughts. To understand the depth and essence of the six days of labor and the six years of labor, and on the other hand to understand the importance and the acute need to halt the tumult of the world.
